Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. ‘not with’ team after Friday arrest

Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. is not with the Crimson Tide football program after he was arrested Friday on charges of harassing communications and doxing, head coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday.

“He’s not with us,” DeBoer said. “We have an expectation and a standard in our program [with] team rules and everything that goes along with that. There’s still some details I’m trying to understand, but it’s enough to know that’s now how we operate.”

Both charges are misdemeanors, with the doxing charge deemed a Class A misdemeanor.

The junior did not play in the Crimson Tide’s 31-20 win over Texas A&M on Saturday after being suspended for violating team rules. Kirkpatrick’s arrest was his second in the past year, after being charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of attempting to elude and speeding on Nov. 1, 2025, while Alabama was on a bye week.

He was indefinitely suspended two days later and missed the Crimson Tide’s final seven games of the season, as it made a College Football Playoff quarterfinal appearance in the Rose Bowl. Kirkpatrick rejoined Alabama’s roster in the spring after completing necessary measures to return to the field.

“He had consequences for what he did and the things he’s gone through,” DeBoer said in March. “There’s still pieces to that that he’s taking care of when it comes to those consequences with the team. Missed a lot of the season last year to be able to get back to the spot where he is on the football field. He met those requirements and has a great attitude about him. He loves ball. He’s got to build the trust up with his teammates out there every day. He’ll do the things not just on the field, but off it as well to meet the standard our program expects.”

Kirkpatrick’s court date for last fall’s traffic incident is set for Nov. 18, after several delays pushed the appearance back. A lawsuit against him was thrown out in May by a judge in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, after Kirkpatrick allegedly struck then-17-year-old Holden Moxley, an Oklahoma fan, in the head during a field storm by Sooners fans following the Crimson Tide’s 24-3 upset loss in Norman in 2024.
