Patrick opened up a few years back in an interview about how he began to realize the impact of the TV series later in life. He spoke about how he was just a kid on set going to work each day, simply “trying to make enough money to buy a racecar.” He saw the money in acting to be a method of achieving his dream. However, he soon came to learn how much the show meant to viewers.
” When I turned about 30, and MTV came on the air, I became interested in doing rock videos. We did a thing called ‘Whatever Happened to Eddie?’ with lyrics that I wrote, and it was credited under the name Eddie and the Monsters. We got it on MTV as the first unsigned act to ever air on that upstart music channel, which was kind of a big deal back in 1982. … That was what kind of brought “The Munsters” back into my life,” Patrick told the New Hampshire Union Leader.
When asked why the show is still a favorite, Patrick spoke candidly.
“Two things come to mind — No. 1 is that it came out in the ’60s, when there was a lot of stuff going on. People who lived through that era tend to remember it vividly, and there’s a lot of nostalgia tied to that time. … As far as The Munsters goes, the reason that it was so popular, in my opinion, was that it was produced by the same team that did Leave it to Beaver, and so it had that same strong family dynamic at its core. We were a very entertaining group of people. Yes, we were different, and yes, we were weird, but at the end of the day, it was a show about a tight-knit family with good moral fiber.”
