This week’s episode of Saturday Night Live UK tackled the ongoing controversy around Thomas Markle Sr. being investigated for alleged possession of child pornography.
“In royal news, it’s been a big 24 hours for Meghan Markle, whose dad has been accused of being an alleged pedophile, in another pathetic attempt to win over the British public,” joked Weekend Update co-anchor Paddy Young.
Young joked further, “In 2025, Thomas Markle moved to the Philippines, in a sure sign of his innocence!”
The evidence in Markle Sr.’s case is reportedly based on pornographic materials found by his son Thomas Markle Jr., although Markle Sr. denied the allegations in a statement on Friday to the Daily Mail. “I’m shocked, I’m hurt, and I’m very upset that my son is making these accusations against me,” Markle Sr. said. “I could never do what I’m being accused of. It’s the worst thing anyone could accuse me of.”

Meghan Markle herself released a statement on the controversy, claiming that she believes there is merit to the accusations and that she had already cut her father out of her life.
“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them,” Markle wrote.
The Duchess of Sussex continued, “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families. Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
Weekend Update co-anchor Ania Magliano used the media speculation around Markle’s father to remind viewers of the alleged sex crimes of someone much more closely linked to the royal family: Prince Andrew, who SNL mocked in their cold open two weeks earlier.
“If the allegations about Meghan Markle’s father are true, and he is a pedophile, there is a genuine chance Meghan could be considered royal,” Magliano joked.
