MacKenzie Scott has donated a total of $26.3 billion to more than 1,600 charitable organizations since signing the Giving Pledge in 2019, making her one of the most generous philanthropists in the United States.
Her latest donations include $7.17 billion given to about 225 organizations in 2025, according to her blog post published in December.
The billionaire philanthropist has directed her wealth toward organizations working on education, health care, poverty, racial inequality, climate change and other social needs. Her donations also include support for historically Black colleges and universities, community groups and nonprofits that help people facing difficult conditions.
Scott’s approach stands out because she often gives money without strict rules about how organizations must spend it. This allows nonprofit leaders to decide where the money is needed most, from helping families in need to improving schools and expanding access to health care.

Her charitable work is organized largely through Yield Giving, a platform established in 2022 to share information about her donations. By the end of 2025, her total giving had reached $26.3 billion, per CNBC.
In her December 2025 essay, Scott also pointed out that the value of giving cannot be measured by money alone.
“This dollar total will likely be reported in the news, but any dollar amount is a vanishingly tiny fraction of the personal expressions of care being shared into communities this year,” Scott wrote.
Scott signed the Giving Pledge in May 2019, following her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The Giving Pledge is a campaign that encourages some of the world’s wealthiest people to commit most of their wealth to charitable causes during their lifetimes or through their wills.
After the divorce, Scott received a large amount of Amazon stock, making her one of the world’s wealthiest women. Rather than keeping most of her fortune, she began making large donations to organizations across the United States and other communities.
In a 2020 blog post, Scott explained that her team looked for “organizations with strong leadership teams and results” when deciding where to direct donations.
She also said she wanted to give special attention to communities facing high levels of food insecurity, racial inequality and poverty, as well as places with limited access to charitable funding.
Her 2025 donations continued to support a wide range of causes. Among the recipients were historically Black colleges and universities and organizations working on social justice, climate change and other community needs.
Despite giving away billions of dollars, Scott has continued to hold substantial wealth. Her net worth was estimated at $28.2 billion, according to Forbes.
Research published in December 2023 examined Scott’s donations to nonprofit organizations. The analysis found that many recipients had larger budgets than the typical nonprofit, while her grants also reached organizations connected to national groups and community services.
Education has been one of her major areas of support. Her donations have helped colleges, universities and other educational organizations. She has also funded health care providers, housing programs, youth services and groups that help people facing financial hardship.
Her giving has reached organizations in all 50 US states, according to the 2023 analysis. Some of her largest grants went to historically Black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions.
Scott has also supported smaller nonprofits. In 2024, after inviting community-focused organizations to apply for funding through an open call, she announced $640 million in grants to 361 organizations.
Scott has explained that she wants people doing important work in their communities to receive attention rather than making the donor the center of the story.
“People struggling against inequities deserve center stage in stories about change they are creating,” Scott wrote in a 2021 blog post. “This is equally, perhaps especially, true when their work is funded by wealth.”
Scott has also shared personal memories that helped shape her views on generosity. She recalled a dentist who offered her free dental work when she was in college and had a broken tooth. She also remembered a Princeton University roommate who lent her $1,000 when she was struggling and at risk of leaving school.
Those experiences helped illustrate why she values both financial assistance and personal acts of kindness.
Although Scott’s donations have reached billions of dollars, she has stressed that generosity can take many forms, including helping a neighbor, offering support to a stranger or giving time to a community cause.
