The Avalanche were “sluggish and sloppy” in their 3-2 loss to the Flyers. And undoubtedly the team’s worst performance yet this season.
Despite outshooting Philadelphia by two, Colorado struggled with passing, shooting, and execution.

Head coach Jared Bednar said after the game, “Execution was a big factor for us … (They were) not doing enough to create offense.”
The Avs’ pace was not good and out of sync. There was also questionable goalie interference on Matvei Michkov’s first goal. The Avalanche challenged, but the officials’ call favored the Flyers and contributed to the Avalanche’s lack of momentum.
“It’s goalie interference. Manson lifts his stick and bumps him a little bit, and (Flyers’ Porter Martone) doesn’t make an effort to avoid the goal,” Bednar said. “He just stays in there. He’s in there too long and causing too much disruption on the goalie.”
Credit to the Flyers for putting pressure on one of the League’s top teams, but expectations were high for the Avs in the disappointing defeat.
Mackenzie Blackwood’s exceptional goaltending was the sole reason the game remained close.
