RTA has completed the conversion of Al Satwa Roundabout into a signalised intersection, along with road upgrades and infrastructure improvements aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow.
The project has cut journey times by 50% and reduced waiting times and traffic queues by up to 60% during peak hours, according to an RTA statement.
The upgrade is designed to improve traffic movement along the roads and corridors connected to the intersection, providing smoother and more efficient journeys for motorists.
The intersection serves traffic travelling along 2nd December Street towards the Trade Centre and Al Satwa, as well as vehicles heading in the opposite direction. It also improves connectivity between these key routes and the area’s internal streets.
The redesigned junction enhances bus movement and access to and from Al Satwa, helping reduce delays, improve public transport operations and strengthen integration between the road network and public transport system.
The project is particularly important given the intersection’s strategic location and its role in managing traffic to and from Al Satwa and neighbouring districts, including the Trade Centre, Al Bada’a, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba and Jumeirah. It also facilitates access to Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding major corridors, the RTA said.
The upgrade complements broader road network improvements across Al Satwa and nearby districts, particularly the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project.
Together, the projects aim to improve connectivity between Dubai World Trade Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding roads, distribute traffic more efficiently and ease congestion at connecting intersections and streets.
