Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza will lead the team in both white-ball formats during the United Arab Emirates tour, which runs from October 17 to November 17. Wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga and leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa could make their international debuts in white-ball cricket.
Zimbabwe will first compete in an ODI tri-series against Bangladesh and Afghanistan before facing Afghanistan in three T20Is and two Tests. The selectors have retained much of the group that played Australia in Harare last month, while Richard Ngarava, who is recovering from a back injury, remains unavailable.
Sikandar Raza will captain Zimbabwe in both white-ball formats. The team management has named Tsiga and Masekesa in place of Innocent Kaia and Graeme Cremer in the ODI squad.
The 32-year-old Tsiga has scored three first-class centuries this year and has also represented Zimbabwe in Test cricket. Masekesa took 25 wickets for the Mountaineers in the Logan Cup at an average of 29.92. He picked up a nine-wicket haul against the Bangladesh Emerging team in Sylhet.
Both players are in contention to make their white-ball debuts in the ODI and T20I formats. Cremer, meanwhile, has been dropped from the ODI setup after playing just once against Australia. The appearance was his first in the format in more than eight years.
Kaia suffered a thigh strain during the final match against Australia and is still recovering. However, he is expected to be available for the T20I series against Afghanistan, which begins on October 27.
Zimbabwe Retain Experienced Batting Core And Adjust Pace Attack
Sikandar Raza will lead a batting group featuring experienced campaigners Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor, alongside younger players Ben Curran, Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani. The mix gives the team experience and depth across the limited-overs assignments.
Blessing Muzarabani will spearhead the pace attack, with Brad Evans, Ernest Masuku, and Newman Nyamhuri providing support. Masekesa and Wellington Masakadza are among the spin options, adding variety to the bowling group.
The team has also made a change for the shortest format. Kundai Matigimu will replace Evans for the third and final T20I against Afghanistan, while Evans remains part of the squad for the other white-ball matches.
