Charles “Bud” Howard, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Tequesta, Florida, has verbally committed to the University of Michigan for 2027-28. At the time of his commitment, he wrote on social media:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Michigan, Go Blue Huge thanks to my family, coaches, teammates, and the Michigan team for all the support!”
A senior at Jupiter High School, Howard swims for his school and for the club team, Jupiter Dragons Swim Team. He was named to the 2025-26 USA Swimming National Junior Team for his 100 fly performance (53.31, 3rd place) at the 2025 Ocala Futures, where he also achieved lifetime bests in the 100 free (51.56), 200 free (1:53.02), and 50 fly (25.07).
In high school season last fall, Howard won the 200 free and was runner-up in the 100 fly at the Florida High School Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships. He picked up new PBs in both events (1:37.16 and 47.00, respectively).
A month later, he competed at Winter Juniors East in the 50/100/200 free and 100 fly. He earned a PB in the 100 free (45.17) and won the ‘B’ final in the 100, placing 9th overall, with 47.42. At the Florida Gold Coast Senior Short Course Championships in March, he improved his 50 free time to 20.50, his 100 free to 43.81, and his 50 fly to 21.81.
Over the course of the 2026 LCM season, he notched PBs in the 50 free (23.91), 200 free (1:52.74), and 200 IM (2:09.48), before wrapping up at Summer Junior Nationals. There, he finaled in the 100 free (12th), 50 fly (6th), and 100 fly (9th) and clocked lifetime bests in the 50 free (23.89), 100 free (50.89), and 50 fly (24.57).
