To The University of Alabama, Myles Morgan is a senior business major. To the country music scene, he’s much more.
As Morgan balances online classes with a music career, he’s bringing his second headline tour titled “The Road Sign Tour” back to his own college town this Friday at Two Dimes.
After making his headline debut last year and opening for major country acts such as Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Jon Pardi, Morgan said he is excited to return to Tuscaloosa for what will likely be a sold out show.
“I’ve been nothing but a Bama fan my whole life,” Morgan said. “I’ve always had Bama in my blood.”
Morgan’s music career began in familiar local venues including Galettes, Copper Top and Rhythm and Brews. It wasn’t until his first headline show in Mobile, Alabama, during his sophomore year that he realized he wanted to pursue music full time.
Morgan is now based in Nashville after moving last year, but his Alabama roots have significantly shaped his identity as an artist.
“Being a student here, I feel like it gives you a lot of life experiences that are great to put into songs,” he said.
Notably, the third single he ever released titled “Is This Seat Taken” is a nod to a girl he met in the stands at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Morgan said he enjoys writing about his beliefs and what he stands for, but he most frequently writes about the highs and lows of relationships. He takes musical inspiration from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Riley Green and his dream collaboration Post Malone.
Balancing student responsibilities with a headlining tour is certainly a challenge, but for Morgan, living both lives is exciting. He said he loves having an artist’s lifestyle and learning more about the music industry while also coming back to Tuscaloosa for game days with his college friends.
“This is where all my people are,” he said.
The singer said he appreciates all the smaller shows he played that led to the opportunities to perform for bigger crowds. Now, he is building a bigger fanbase in new cities, seeing new places and experiencing new cultures.
Back in the familiarity of Tuscaloosa, Morgan anticipates a crowd of family and friends singing his lyrics back to him, echoing the same college experiences that defined his early career.
His show begins at 6 p.m. on Friday at Two Dimes. Tickets are available at the door.
“I can guarantee that this show is going to be one of the most fun things you’ve ever been to,” Morgan said. “It’s gonna be action packed; it’s gonna be insane.”
