For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Speedo Sectionals finalist Grace Alger has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Sacred Heart University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career D1 at Sacred Heart University! I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches, especially Rob, Matt, and Kelly for their endless support in getting me where I am today. And a special thank you to Coach John and Coach Brendan for this incredible opportunity! Go Pios!!
The Connecticut native is a senior at Berlin High School but does her year-round training with the West Hartford Aquatic Team, where she primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM.
Alger is coming off a breakthrough 2025-26 season that saw her drop over eight seconds in the 200 breast and 200 IM and nearly three and a half seconds in the 100 breast. She clocked all of her current lifetime bests at Speedo Sectionals – Ithaca at the end of March, her first time qualifying to compete at the meet, where she made the ‘C’ finals in each of her events, finishing 20th in the 100 breast (1:05.92), 26th in the 200 breast (2:25.96 in prelims, 2:28.01 in finals), and 31st in the 200 IM (2:11.44).

Based on the results from the meet, Alger’s current career bests in the breaststroke events would have qualified her for the ‘B’ finals. She’s also less than a second off the 2:10.55 that was needed to earn a second swim in the 200 IM, setting her up to be an immediate contributor with still two full seasons of training ahead before lining up at her first conference meet.
Alger joins Hadley D’Agostino, Hayden Gill, and Olivia Johnson in committing to Sacred Heart’s class of 2031 so far.
