3. Musgrove makes his return
San Diego’s dominant shutout victory over the Cubs last night included three home runs and a no-hit bid, but it was a former ace who stole the show. Joe Musgrove made his long-awaited return to the mound after nearly two years. Musgrove loaded the bases on two hits and a walk, but struck out Michael Conforto to wrap up the victory. “That was dope,” Jackson Merrill said (h/t Bob Nightengale of USA Today). “We did a lot of good things out there, but nothing compared to watching Joe do that. That was the best part of the game, in my opinion.”
