A dark shadow has been cast over Emmerdale village, as the residents prepare to say a final goodbye to the much-loved Jimmy King (Nick Miles).

After spending the best part of two decades doting over the haulage driver, Nicola’s (Nicola Wheeler) happy memories of her husband have been forever tainted by the claims that he was living a double life and pursuing a relationship with scheming ex-wife Sadie (Patsy Kensit).

While there seems to be some truth to her story, a series of telling voice notes could provide further answers - and ahead of the funeral, Nicola sits down with best pal Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) to investigate.

But what will they find, and could it lead to an explosive confrontation at the church when Nicola begins to deliver her eulogy?

Elsewhere in the Dales, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is admitted to hospital after collapsing. Dr Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) explains her concerns about orthorexia to Laurel.

Plus, after a stretch in prison, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) returns home. But will she be able to make amends with granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), who she so badly wronged?

Here's everything happening in the episodes of Emmerdale airing between Monday 5 and Friday 9 October.

1. Charity Dingle comes home and hopes for a reunion with Sarah Sugden

Charity is left stunned when Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) pays her a visit in prison - but she’s even more surprised when she explains that she wants to talk about Sarah.

Back in the village, DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) is desperately trying to convince Sarah to abandon her blackmail plan. However, she appears determined to see it through, leaving Thea with little choice but to take matters into her own hands.

Later, the detective catches up with Serena and asks how things went with Charity. But the conversation has been a disaster, and Thea soon finds herself backed into a corner. Then, completely out of the blue, Charity receives some life-changing news when a prison guard tells her she’s going home.

Charity is uneasy when she arrives back in the village and discovers that Sarah is nowhere to be seen. With the rest of the family waiting to welcome her, Charity is left wondering why Sarah has stayed away.

Eventually, Charity asks her granddaughter to meet her privately in The Woolpack back room. As the family waits anxiously, Charity and Sarah come face-to-face.

But after everything that has happened, can Sarah find it in herself to forgive Charity for her betrayal?

2. Gabby Thomas is admitted to hospital

Manpreet becomes increasingly concerned about Gabby and speaks to her colleague, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), about what she has noticed. Manpreet explains that she suspects Gabby could be struggling with orthorexia and is determined to make sure she gets the support she needs.

Laurel is soon troubled when Manpreet raises concerns about her step-daughter's recent social media activity. Hoping to check on her, she goes looking for Gabby - but she has no idea just how badly things have deteriorated.

Unbeknownst to Laurel, Gabby is experiencing a severe panic attack on the floor behind the counter at The Hide Bistro.

Meanwhile, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) is pleased to overhear talk of the restaurant's financial problems, but Laurel's attention is elsewhere when she discovers Gabby has collapsed. An ambulance is immediately called, leaving everyone fearing for her wellbeing.

Later, Gabby wakes up in hospital and makes a major decision. She gives Manpreet permission to tell Laurel about her concerns over orthorexia. Although Gabby is clearly emotional, she appears ready to accept that she needs help, and with her loved ones standing by her, she may finally be ready to confront what she's been going through.

Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) is left feeling guilty when he learns about his ex-girlfriend's struggles, admitting that he wishes he had spotted the warning signs sooner.

But there could be another complication when Gabby's youngster sister Dotty (Tilly-Rue Foster) is revealed to have seen some of her troubling social media posts. Could her private battle become much more public?

3. Chaos erupts at Jimmy King's funeral

Nicola prepares to say goodbye to her beloved Jimmy, but his betrayal still weighs heavily on her. Unable to deliver the eulogy herself, she asks vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) to speak on her behalf.

Meanwhile, Jimmy's son Carl Holliday (Charlie Joyce) makes an unexpected discovery when he finds a mysterious key at the scrapyard. His excitement is short-lived, however, as he becomes upset knowing that his dad won't be around for his birthday the following day.

Sadie is also left increasingly anxious when she learns that Nicola has discovered backed-up voicemails on Jimmy's laptop.

The following day, Carl attempts to put on a brave face as his birthday celebrations get underway. Elsewhere, Sadie tells Robert about the voicemails, prompting him to urge her to deal with the problem. Before long, she sets out to delete the recordings herself.

But her plan is thwarted when Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) walks in, forcing her to think quickly and cover her tracks.

Later, Nicola receives an unexpected call from Hotten Golf Club. Robert happens to be nearby and immediately takes notice. Then Manpreet recognises the mysterious key as one belonging to Jimmy's locker at the golf club.

With the possibility that Jimmy's missing money could be hidden inside, Robert and Sadie race to the club. Once inside the locker room, however, the pair are forced into hiding when Rodney and Nicola arrive.

With the danger of being discovered growing by the second, will Sadie and Robert manage to find what they're looking for - or will their secret finally be exposed?

As preparations for Jimmy's funeral continue, Carl panics after losing the memorial presentation he prepared for his dad. Nicola logs onto Jimmy's laptop to help him, but makes a shocking discovery when she finds the backed-up voicemails.

Nicola and Laurel decide to listen to the recordings together. Could the messages finally reveal the truth about Jimmy's final days, and will Nicola be able to cope with what she hears?

Eventually, the villagers gather at the church for Jimmy's funeral. Sadie makes sure she has a prominent seat as the service begins, but the ceremony soon takes an unexpected turn.

Charles starts to deliver the eulogy, but Nicola is unhappy with what she hears and stops him. Instead, she decides to speak about Jimmy herself.

With emotions running high, what will Nicola say about the man who supposedly betrayed her?
