Summer Nationals qualifier Thea Bike has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Indiana University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University!! Thank you to my family, friends, and teammates for the endless support all these years. A special thank you to Coach Tim, Coach Rooney, and Coach Jon for help making me the swimmer I am today. And a tremendously HUGE thank you to Coach Ray, Coach Cory, and the entire Indiana coaching staff for this amazing opportunity! GO HOOSIERS!
A senior at Saint Charles North High School in Illinois, Bike has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Saint Charles Swim Team, where she primarily specializes in backstroke and butterfly.
Bike is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw her drop over two and a half seconds in the 200 back, about two seconds in the 100 fly, and roughly three quarters of a second in the 100 back. She won the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championship in the 100 back this past November, clocking 53.66, in addition to taking sixth in the 100 fly (55.54) and helping Saint Charles North to fourth in the 200 medley relay (24.61 fly split) and fifth in the 200 free relay (23.79 split). Two weeks prior to State, she’d set a PB of 54.82 in the 100 fly at Sectionals. She went on to set her current backstroke PBs (53.55/1:55.66) at Speedo Sectionals – West Fargo in March, capping the season.
Bike is a Winter Juniors, Summer Juniors, and Nationals qualifier; at Junior Nationals (LCM) last month, she swam to bronze in the 100 back (1:01.26 – PB), seventh in the 50 back (29.09), and 140th in the 50 fly (29.30). At Nationals a week prior, she touched 22nd in the 100 back (1:01.49), 39th in the 50 back (29.59), 48th in the 200 back (2:17.64 – PB), and 83rd in the 100 fly (1:05.17 – PB).

Bike’s current lifetime best in the 200 back would have qualified for the ‘B’ final, while her time in the 100 back would have advanced to the ‘C’ final, setting her up to be an immediate contributor with still nearly three full seasons of training ahead before lining up at her first conference meet.
Bike joins breaststroke specialist Mallory Ferguson in committing to the Hoosiers’ class of 2031 so far.
