A semi-truck crashed into a concrete barrier and rolled over on a Chicago-area expressway, sending debris flying into the roadway and forcing several lanes to be blocked as crews worked to clean up the scene.
Illinois State Police said the crash happened just after 4 a.m. Thursday on the westbound side of Interstate 80 near milepost 147 in Tinley Park.
A preliminary investigation found a semi-truck crashed into a concrete barrier and rolled over “which caused debris to enter the roadway,” police said.
No injuries were reported in the crash, but westbound and eastbound lanes of I-80 were partially blocked as authorities urged drivers to “please slow down and use caution if you are unable to avoid this area.”
NBC 5 Traffic Reporter Kye Martin said traffic was largely getting by on the shoulder on both sides of the expressway as of 6 a.m. Thursday.
Martin suggested commuters traveling eastbound exit I-80 at U.S. 30, then take northbound I-57 back to I-80 to avoid the closures.
Westbound travelers can exit on I-57 southbound toward U.S. 30, then return onto I-80 at LaGrange Road, Martin said.
