Bengal lost that final to Saurashtra at Eden Gardens. Bengal also performed strongly during the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season but lost to Jammu and Kashmir in the semi-final.
Rishabh Pant to Lead Star-Studded Rest of India Squad
Rishabh Pant will captain the Rest of India side and also take the wicketkeeping duties, with Sarfaraz Khan named vice-captain. Aryan Juyal has been included as the backup wicketkeeper.
The selectors have rewarded several of the leading performers from the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. R Smaran finished as the leading run-scorer with 950 runs. Ayush Doseja (949), Sanat Sangwan (828) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (797) have been included in the 15-member squad.
Mukesh Kumar and Mukesh Choudhary will lead the pace attack, while Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain are the main spin options. Suthar has made an impressive start to his Test career, taking 23 wickets in his first three matches, including a 10-wicket match haul.
Jain has also been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, taking 51 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. He recently made his international debut in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, where he claimed three wickets.
All-rounder Anukul Roy earned his place after a strong Duleep Trophy campaign with East Zone, who won the title. Jharkhand batter Shikhar Mohan has also been included after scoring 85 and 52 in the Duleep Trophy final.
Bengal Trio Included as Akash Deep Awaits Fitness Clearance
Laxmi Ratan Shukla will have three Bengal players in the Rest of India squad. Sudip Kumar Gharami and Mukesh Kumar have been selected, while Akash Deep has also been included subject to fitness.
Akash Deep has not played competitive cricket since the Ranji Trophy semi-final in February. A lower-back stress injury ruled him out of IPL 2026 and kept him out of India’s subsequent fixtures. He must pass a fitness test before being cleared to play in the Irani Cup.
The fixture will bring Laxmi Ratan Shukla and the three Bengal players together in different roles, with Shukla part of the coaching staff and Gharami, Mukesh Kumar and potentially Akash Deep representing the Rest of India.
