Junior Nationals qualifier Abi Paton has announced her verbal commitment to swim for North Carolina State University beginning in the fall of 2027.

An Indiana native, Paton is a senior at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, where she has competed for the varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She currently trains year-round with Fishers Area Swimming Tigers and primarily specializes in free and fly.
Paton posted a series of top performances at the 2026 FAST Winter Classic in January, logging personal best times in six events. She won the 50 free (24.26), 100 free (51.87), 200 free (1:50.58), 200 fly (2:04.69), 200 IM (2:07.54) and 400 IM (4:32.98), setting a lifetime best in all but the 400 IM. She also placed 6th in the 200 back (2:10.33 – PB).
A month later, Paton clocked two more lifetime best performances at the IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletic Association) Girls State Championship. She earned a second swim in both of her individual events, placing 5th in the 200 free (1:50.63) and 6th in the 100 fly (54.48) after setting personal best times of 1:49.64 and 54.26, respectively, during prelims.
Paton continued to improve her times at the SwimStrong Dryland National Championship in March. She took 3rd in the 100 fly (54.62), 4th in the 200 free (1:51.15), 5th in the 50 free (24.19 – PB) and 6th in the 100 free (51.50 – PB). She also placed 5th in the 200 fly in 2:04.36 after posting a best time of 2:03.27 during prelims.
Paton most recently raced at the 2026 Junior National Championships (LCM) in August, where she contested the 50 free (27.94), 200 free (2:08.72), 50 fly (28.51) and 100 fly (1:02.99).

100 fly – 54.26 200 fly – 2:03.27 50 free – 24.19 100 free – 51.50 200 free – 1:49.64A Division I program in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the NC State women placed 5th at last season’s conference championships before sending nine athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship, where they finished 9th overall. To earn a second swim at the 2026 ACCs, it took times of 22.56/48.91/1:46.88 in the 50/100/200 free and 53.31/2:00.11 in the 100/200 fly, putting Paton outside the cutoff in each of her top events.
On the team itself, Paton would have ranked 6th in the 200 fly and 11th in the 100 fly, setting her up to bring added depth to the team. With five senior swimmers on NC State’s roster this season, including butterflyers Keelan Cotter and Tyler Driscoll, Paton will help fill some of the gaps left behind heading into fall 2027.
Currently set to join Paton in Raleigh next fall are Chloe Teger, Emily Wolf and Sutton Forbis, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
