There’s been no shortage of milestones for “Choosin’ Texas.” Billboard named it the No. 1 Song of the Summer for 2026, and it has been part of a huge year for country music on the Hot 100. In August, country songs made history by taking all five spots at the top of the chart for the first time.
Ella Langley Didn’t Expect ‘Choosin’ Texas’ to Become This Big
Langley co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor. The idea for the song came from a story Lambert told at a writers’ retreat about a kangaroo riding in her passenger seat and a police officer noticing her Texas plates.
The song was released in October 2025 as the lead single from Langley’s album Dandelion. It went on to become Langley’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and, by far, the biggest chart success of her career.
“We loved the song when we wrote it, but none of us thought that it would be the song to do everything it’s doing,” Langley previously told Billboard. “It keeps giving us a reason to celebrate new milestones.”
