For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Two-time Georgia high school state champion Natalia Amescua has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Missouri beginning in the fall of 2027.

“I am beyond excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri! First of all, I’d like to thank my family, my coaches and my friends for supporting me over the years and throughout this process. An extra special thank you to Chris Sr, Chris Jr, and Scot for pushing me and inspiring me with their endless support! I am also very grateful for Coach Grevers, Coach Kate, and the entire Mizzou staff for believing in me and blessing me with this amazing opportunity! I can’t wait to be a part of such an incredible team, this is just the beginning! Go Tigers & M-I-Z!!”

A senior at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA, Amescua has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with SwimAtlanta, where she excels at free, back, fly and IM.

Amescua has competed at three-straight Georgia high school state championships, turning in a series of top performances at the 2026 GHSA 6A State Championship in February. She successfully defended her state title in the 200 IM, logging a personal best time of 2:01.76 in the event. She also snagged the runner-up spot in the 100 back (55.53 – PB) and logged a best time of 26.69 in the 50 back as the leadoff on the 200 medley relay.

At the Best of the South meet a few weeks later, Amescua posted another string of strong performances. She won the 200 IM (2:02.30) and 400 IM (4:19.47) and placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:50.67) and 5th in the 200 back (2:02.53). She also secured the runner-up spot in the 200 fly (2:00.51) after clocking a lifetime best time of 2:00.32 during prelims.

    Best Times SCY:

    200 IM – 2:01.76 400 IM – 4:19.01 100 fly – 57.47 200 fly – 2:00.32 100 back – 55.53 200 back – 1:59.97 200 free – 1:49.96

A Division I program in the Southeastern Conference, Mizzou placed 10th at last season’s conference championships before sending six athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships. To earn a second swim at the 2026 SEC Championships, it took times of 2:00.73/4:17.08 in the 200/400 IM, 53.15/1:59.67 in the 100/200 fly, 53.78/1:56.82 in the 100/200 back and 1:46.80 in the 200 free, putting Amescua outside the cutoff in each of her top events. On the team itself, Amescua would have ranked 3rd in the 400 IM and 200 fly, 4th in the 200 IM and 5th in the 100 back and 200 back, putting her in a position to be a strong contributor for the Tigers.

Currently set to join Amescua in Mizzou’s class of 2031 are Hayleigh Haines, Ella Waters, Ella Lee, Naomi Bowland and Lilia Barber, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
