Winter Juniors qualifier Macy Malinski has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond excited & blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Utah! A rising senior at Edina High School in Edina, Minnesota, Malinski has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with the Aquajets Swim Team, where she primarily specializes in sprint freestyle, middle-distance freestyle, and sprint butterfly.
Malinski is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw her make a leap forward in the middle-distance freestyle events. At the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class AA State Championships in November, she helped Edina win the 400 free relay (51.57 season-best leadoff) and touch second in the 200 free relay (23.53 split), in addition to finishing second in the 200 free (1:49.39) and third in the 500 free (4:58.30) with current lifetime bests, culminating a season that saw her drop nearly a second and a half in the former and over two and a half seconds in the latter.
She also clocked a time of 56.93 in the 100 fly at the MN AQJT Senior SC State Championships to wrap up the season in March, over a two-second drop from where she was at the start of the season.
Malinski’s lifetime bests in the sprint free events date back to the 2024-25 season; she clocked 51.19 in the 100 free at the MSHSL Girls Section 2AA meet in November 2024 and swam 23.83 in the 50 free at the MN FOXJ Winter Classic in January 2025.
Beyond short course swimming, Malinski posted a time of 26.65 in the 50 LCM freestyle this past summer, qualifying her for the Winter Junior Championships (SCY) in December.

Malinski’s current times fall a bit outside the cutoffs needed to score at the meet, with times of 23.12/50.55/1:49.33/4:56.89 required in the 50/100/200/500 free and 54.91 needed in the 100 fly, though she still has two full seasons of training ahead before lining up at her first conference meet.
Malinski joins Ella Butcher, Rainie Moran, Sophia Friestedt, Riley Hollingsworth, and Makenna Sherman in committing to the Utes’ class of 2031 so far.
