CSCAA Votes Virginia Women Top of Division I Preseason Poll

By Madeline Folsom on SwimSwam

The Virginia women were voted the unanimous number one pick by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in the first poll of the 2026-27 NCAA season.

The CSCAA has changed their format for this season. Previously, these polls have been “dual-meet” polls and were primarily based on dual meet performances/records. That will not be the case this season, as they have transitioned to a “comprehensive in-season ranking” which is meant to “reflect overall team strength.”

They say that, “voters will consider a broad range of results and performances, providing the most complete evaluation of programs.”

This means that the CSCAA voters are considering every aspect of a team’s performance including dual meet results, how athletes ranked nationally, athlete performance since the previous poll, depth and quality of athlete performances, and invitational and championship meet results.

Rather than a poll every month, there will be just five polls this year, with the first one coming out yesterday.

Preseason Poll: September 17, 2026 October Poll: October 29, 2026 December Poll: December 10, 2026 February Poll: February 4, 2027 March Poll: March 4, 2027

The Virginia women have won the last six NCAA Championships, and they are already the favorites to take a seventh title in 2027. They were the unanimous pick by the CSCAA voters for the top spot on the poll with the maximum 250 points.

Stanford, the 2026 NCAA runner-up, was voted 2nd by just one point (233) over the 2026 3rd place finisher Texas (232).

Tennessee took 4th (217) and Indiana was 5th (209). Michigan took 6th (198), and the Cal women came in at 7th (196) after finishing 4th at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Louisville (182), NC State (171), and Florida (160) round out the top-10 teams.
