The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has charged two former Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team officials with multiple breaches of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. Md. Abdul Kayum Rashed and Md. Amin Khan have been provisionally suspended following investigations by the BCB Integrity Unit (BCBIU).
The charges relate to alleged offences during the 11th and 12th editions of the BPL, including match manipulation and failing to cooperate with the investigation. Notably, the BCB has issued Notices of Charge to both officials, who have 14 days to respond to the allegations before the anti-corruption tribunal.
Former Chattogram Royals owner Md. Abdul Kayum Rashed faces four charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code over alleged breaches linked to the BPL. The BCB Integrity Unit is investigating alleged corrupt conduct related to the 12th edition of the tournament.
Rashed has been charged under Article 2.1.1 for allegedly fixing, attempting to fix or improperly influencing the result, progress or conduct of a match. He also faces a charge under Article 2.4.4 for allegedly failing to report an approach or invitation to take part in corrupt conduct without unnecessary delay.
The remaining charges fall under Articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7. The BCB alleges that Rashed failed to cooperate with the investigation and obstructed or delayed the process by refusing to provide his primary mobile phone for forensic examination.
Rashed has been provisionally suspended and has 14 days from receiving his Notice of Charge to respond to the allegations.
Md. Amin Khan Charged With Match Manipulation and Obstruction
Former Durbar Rajshahi and Chattogram Royals team official Md. Amin Khan also faces four charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. He worked as an operations manager for Durbar Rajshahi in the 11th edition and later held a similar role with Chattogram Royals in the 12th edition.
Khan faces a charge under Article 2.1.1 for allegedly fixing or improperly influencing the result, progress or conduct of a match. He has also been charged under Article 2.1.4 for allegedly soliciting, inducing, encouraging or intentionally facilitating another participant to engage in corrupt conduct.
The BCB has further charged Khan under Articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 for allegedly failing to cooperate with the investigation and obstructing or delaying the inquiry. The board alleges that he concealed or destroyed communications or other information that could have been relevant to the investigation.
Khan has been provisionally suspended and has 14 days to respond to the charges. The allegations remain part of the ongoing disciplinary process.
BCB Continues Wider BPL Anti-Corruption Investigation
The board previously provisionally suspended five participants in May over allegations involving corrupt conduct, betting activities, failure to disclose approaches and non-cooperation with investigations.
Earlier this month, the BCB also charged former board director Muhammad Mukhlesur Rahman Shamim, former security liaison officer Zakir Hossain and former BCB councillor Rakibul Islam Sunny over alleged breaches connected to the 12th edition.
The BPL has faced financial and governance issues alongside the ongoing investigations. BCB president Tamim Iqbal has said the tournament’s future depends on resolving its financial problems. The board has also said it will not comment further on the latest charges while the disciplinary process is ongoing.
