UNC Football Players Charged with Carrying Concealed Handgun, Speeding After Traffic Stop

UNC football player Keeyun Chapman was arrested for carrying a concealed handgun and teammate C.J. Sadler was cited for speeding during a traffic stop Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.

The police report for Chapman’s arrest notes the traffic stop took place at 1050 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 9:30 p.m. The charge against him is a misdemeanor and he is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 13.

The vehicle, a black 2024 Cadillac Escalade V, is registered to Sadler. In the incident report citing him for speeding, the officer estimates Sadler’s speed to have been around 60-65 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. The officer also writes that Sadler’s vehicle had been called in an hour prior as “a careless and reckless driver.”

The police report said this was Sadler’s third speeding citation since the beginning of August. Approximately 15 grams of marijuana were also seized from inside the vehicle. Sadler is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 4. Inside Carolina reports that there were two other players aside from Sadler and Chapman in the vehicle, though their identities are unknown at the time of publication.

Sadler, a true freshman from Detroit, has emerged as a contributor early on in the 2026 season. He hauled in three receptions for 66 yards in UNC’s win against East Tennessee State Saturday. Chapman, a fellow true freshman from Jackson, AL, is yet to record a reception this season.
