The Swedish Swimming Federation has pre-nominated seven swimmers for the Short Course World Championships in Beijing this December.
The federation based its nominations on the athletes’ performances at the European Championships in Paris, where swimmers were selected for the Short Course Worlds team if they qualified for an individual final or relay final.

She also added that the qualification period for the Swedish Team will be open until November 10, and that “a lot can happen.”
“We are very happy to be able to present these seven pre-nominated swimmers. It gives us a strong starting point for the Short Course World Championships, while the qualifying period is still open and a lot can happen until November 10th,” Aronsson said. “We are strengthened by this summer’s European Championships, where we competed against the absolute world elite, and are now looking forward to this autumn’s championships, which will culminate in the World Championships in Beijing, which will be held in the same arena that hosted the swimming competitions during the 2008 Olympics. We look forward to coming back there and giving our swimmers the opportunity to compete with the world’s best on short course.”
The team features prominent stars such as distance freestyle ace Victor Johansson, who finished 7th in the 400 freestyle. Another big name is Thilda Haell, who recently finished 6th in the women’s 800 freestyle at Europeans in 8:31.52 and added a 9th-place finish in the 1500 free in 16:19.12.
One prominent name not on the list is Sarah Sjostrom, who won the 50 fly at the European Championships and finished 2nd in the 50 free. Sjöström has not yet announced whether she will compete at the Short Course World Championships in December at the time of publication.
