Cases of flu, RSV, and COVID-19 typically start to rise in the fall. Health officials say getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to avoid getting seriously sick, especially for children, older adults, and those with underlying health conditions. They’re also reminding people to wash their hands more frequently.
Last year’s flu season was among New York State’s worst on record. In December, the state saw its highest number of flu cases ever recorded in a single week, and hospitalizations soared locally. All visitors at hospitals in Rochester were “strongly encouraged” to wear masks because of the surge.

State health officials say everyone 6 months and older should get an annual flu vaccine.
