Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz fell to seven vesselson Thursday, down from 11 the day before and below the 10-day average of 15,according to preliminary data from the ship-tracking firm Kpler.
Two commercial ships left the strait on Thursday and five entered, thedata showed.
The decline came as the naval confrontation between the United Statesand Iran widened. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces hadredirected 96 commercial vessels to enforce a naval blockade of Iran thatresumed on July 14.
On Thursday evening, the navy of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary GuardCorps (IRGC) said it had struck a US sea drone at the entrance to the straitand "thwarted its hostile mission."
