A massive leak of Steam achievements for hundreds of games has revealed the existence of multiple previously unannounced titles.
Exophase, a website dedicated to tracking Steam achievements, recently received an influx of achievement lists for games that haven't been released yet, and therefore should not have their achievements publicly available.
Naturally, the list includes several games with upcoming release dates such as Control Resonant, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Final Fantasy Resonance and more.
But perhaps more interestingly, the list also included games that have not yet been confirmed.
The most interesting title on the list is Persona 6, the long-awaited next instalment in Atlus's iconic JRPG series.
Other unannounced titles garnering interest on social media include a Walking Dead collection, a Stellaris game, a Dune game, two Warhammer games, a Deus Ex remaster, a Slime Rancher game, and Tropico 7.
There are also some interesting allusions to film and TV adaptations, with an unannounced Twin Peaks game catching our eye, alongside a Shrek 2 Remaster, "Nickelodeon life-sim Animal Crossing-esque game," and an unannounced Avengers game.
It's also been a great bit of marketing for whichever noble developer is hard at work on Penis Bird, which appears to be a game where you control a flying penis – I'm excited to see Geoff Keighley announce this one at The Game Awards.
Of course, the existence of achievements on Steam for a game is far from an actual confirmation that the game is in development.
Game development takes a long time, and while placeholder achievements on Steam could indicate that a game is being worked on, many of these games could have been postponed or cancelled already without us being any the wiser.
The fact of the matter is, while seeing news of Persona 6, Penis Bird and a Twin Peaks game is exciting, until we actually hear about them from the developers themselves, it's probably worth taking all of this information with a shaker of salt.
That being said, I am going to continue to be excited about a Twin Peaks game regardless.
