ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Seneca Park Zoo hosted the first ever Honoring Haudenosaunee Relationships Day on Saturday with special celebrations for Indigenous culture and environmental stewardship.
The event featured a Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving address, naturalist talks on animals with Indigenous connections and a shell-bead making demonstration. Knighthawks player Zed Williams was also there to greet guests and share about lacrosse.
“It is one way for the public to come out and learn about our cultures. We have a vibrant history but also a vibrant culture we are present here today,” Cheyenne Reuben-Thomas, a naturalist at Seneca Park Zoo, said. “And one way to learn about different aspects of our culture and also relationships with these animals that are found at the zoo.”
