Junior Nationals qualifier Tasha Mantel has announced her verbal commitment to swim at Emory University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Emory University! Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported me throughout my journey, and thank you to Coach Howell for giving me this amazing opportunity. I am truly thankful to join such an amazing program! Go Eagles!
A rising senior at Naperville North High School in Illinois, Mantel has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Hinsdale Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in sprint freestyle and breaststroke.
The highlight of Mantel’s 2025-26 short course season was the NCSA Spring Championships in March, where she touched 26th in the 50 breast (29.29, a season best), 49th in the 100 breast (1:05.37), 64th in the 100 free (52.48, a PB), and 94th in the 200 free (1:54.33, a PB), capping a season that saw her drop about half a second in both events. The majority of her current personal bests stem from previous seasons: 24.23 in the 50 free from January 2023, 2:22.20 in the 200 breast from March 2023, and 1:03.24 in the 100 breast from November 2024. This past season, she posted season bests of 24.50 in the 50 free and 1:04.26 and 2:28.60 in the 100 and 200 breast.

Mantel’s current lifetime best in the 100 breast would have placed fifth, while her times in the 200 breast and 200 free would have been fast enough to make the “B” finals, and her 100 free would have qualified for the “C” final. She’s also just two-hundredths shy of the 24.21 needed to earn a second swim in the 50 free. Additionally, her 100 breast PB is well under the 1:04.12 that was required to earn a ticket to the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships. With two full seasons of training still ahead before she even lines up at her first conference meet, Mantel is slated to be an immediate contributor for the Eagles.
Mantel joins sprint freestyler Liliana Novak and backstroker/freestyler Vedha Kongettira in committing to Emory’s class of 2031 so far.
