A mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son before trying to harm herself had been “invested” in the Lindsay Clancy trial and was texting friends about it just hours before a horrific scene unfolded inside her home, court documents showed.
Citing witnesses, prosecutors said Corie A. Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial,” which involved a mother killing her three children before trying to kill herself.
The trial has generated intense interest for more than a month, deeply dividing the public and drawing attention to issues around maternal mental health after childbirth.
Clancy’s attorney said she was suffering from a rare condition called postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors conceded that Clancy had severe mental illness, but insisted she was able to understand and control her actions.
According to the court documents, Walsh “had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends” up until just hours before a tragic discovery was made inside her home.

There, police said a neighbor discovered Walsh’s 2-year-old son Barrett hanging from a rafter in their basement. She then found Walsh, fully clothed, in a tub of bloody water. Officers said they found the neighbor holding a towel on Walsh’s left inner thigh, and Walsh had cuts on her wrists and thighs.
The child was pronounced dead that same day and autopsy results found he died of “asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck,” the documents show, though police said a final cause and manner of death were still pending.
According to court documents, Walsh told officers she “did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ.'”
She later admitted in the hospital how she killed Barrett, officials said. Police said Walsh’s admission aligned with what was discovered inside the home.
The situation has been the source of plenty of speculation and headlines after the quiet suburban neighborhood was rocked by news that a young child was killed, allegedly at the hands of his 38-year-old mom, inside a home with at least three other kids.
Prosecutors reported an infant was also inside the home at the time and two school-aged children had returned home around the time the child was discovered. All three remained unharmed.
Walsh’s husband, who lives at the home, was out of state at the time of the incident.
Walsh was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and is now in custody “and being held for medical treatment.”
Police said a forensic analysis of Walsh’s phone was being conducted.
An investigation into the case remained ongoing Friday.
