GENESEO, N.Y. — A Dansville man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to two separate charges.
First sentencing
Sam Diaz, 34, pleaded guilty on Aug. 4 to assault. He was sentenced to five years in state prison, plus five years of post-release supervision.
In February, Diaz was appearing in Livingston County Court when he escaped custody. As courthouse deputies tried to take him back into custody, he fought with them, which resulted in one of them suffering injuries.

Second sentencing
Diaz also pleaded guilty to attempted burglary related to a separate incident that took place back in May 2025. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in state prison on this charge, with five years of post-release supervision. This will run consecutive to his first sentencing.
Other unrelated charges
On Aug. 13, deputies say Diaz was involved in a fight that took place inside the county jail. He was charged with assault in connection to the fight.

According to the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, this case is still pending, and is not related to the two sentencings.
