HBO Max has released a trailer for Band of Brothers: Legacy, the upcoming documentary marking 25 years since the World War II miniseries first aired – and excitingly, it brings together original cast members to reflect on the acclaimed project.
The film arrives on HBO Max on Wednesday 9 September, and forms the centrepiece of the streamer's 25th-anniversary commemoration of the drama.
Featuring new interviews with stars including Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston, the documentary also boasts never-before-seen archival footage, photographs and additional video diaries recorded by Livingston and Richard Speight Jr during production.
Rather than a scripted reunion special, Legacy is a documentary about the making and enduring impact of the series, blending fresh cast recollections with archive material. Other interviewees for the film also include Michael Cudlitz and David Schwimmer, who played the much-loathed Captain Herbert Sobel.
You can watch the official trailer below.Band of Brothers first aired in September 2001 and was based on the book by historian Stephen E Ambrose, being executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. Across 10 episodes, the drama followed Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment from training through to the end of the war in Europe.
Lewis, who played Major Richard Winters, has spoken warmly about the role that helped launch his career. He more recently told People that the series "means everything to me", underlining the affection the cast still holds for the project 25 years later.
The anniversary has prompted a wider run of tributes, including a cast-and-creative-team symposium featuring the likes of Cudlitz, Rick Gomez, Scott Grimes, Frank John Hughes, Livingston, James Madio, Ross McCall and Speight Jr. The documentary, though, gives the widest audience a chance to hear from the ensemble in one place.
Band of Brothers: Legacy will be available to watch on Sky TV and HBO Max from Wednesday 9 September 2026. You can sign up to NOW from £4.99 a month.
