With just a couple of weeks to go until the Harrigans return for more mayhem in MobLand season 2, it has been confirmed that a third season is officially on the way.
The renewal comes after months of reports and speculation, but now it has been confirmed that more episodes will be coming to Paramount+, and Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren will all be returning.
Hardy plays as loyal fixer to the Harrigan crime family, Harry da Souza, while Brosnan and Mirren play the family's patriarch and matriarch, Conrad and Maeve, respectively.
We don't yet know who else from the cast will be returning, but it will likely depend on what happens in season 2, with plenty of thrills and spills expected, meaning some characters may not make it out alive.
Other central cast members in season 2, who could be back for season 3, include Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Teddie Allen, Emmett J. Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Ophelia Lovibond, Janet McTeer and Toby Jones.
The synopsis for season 2 says that it shows the Harrigans struggling "to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire – and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer,’ must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify".
The synopsis continues: "As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy."
During a photoshoot and interview for Radio Times, Mirren recently teased that she is very happy to keep playing Maeve, saying the role "fits me like a glove".
She continued: "It’s slightly worrying because I hope I’m not remotely like Maeve. I absolutely love entering her world. I go home thinking, ‘Why am I enjoying this so much? Why do I feel so easy doing this?’ There must be some flaw in my character."
