Seventeen people were killed and 28 others injured after a bus overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in South Sinai on Wednesday, 2 September, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Health. The crash happened near the Al-Saada area. The Health Ministry sent 20 ambulances to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident. Seventeen people died at the scene, while medical teams treated the injured and transported them to receive further care. Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar also ordered medical authorities to provide the injured with all necessary treatment, medicines and equipment. Jordan’s semi-official channel, Al-Mamlaka TV, reported that 10 of those killed were Jordanian nationals. Medical teams are continuing to monitor the condition of those injured, the ministry said. The crash comes less than a month after another major road accident in Ismailia on 11 August, when a collision involving two vehicles carrying day labourers killed 18 people and injured around 30 others.
