Chicago Bears defensive back Kyler Gordon missed 14 games last season, but will he be back on the field to start the new year?
According to Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, Gordon will begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the coming campaign.
As for whether or not he’ll be able to return to action after that, Poles said he is uncertain whether Gordon will be able to play in the 2026 season.
“I don’t know. I would hope so,” he said. “I still have hope there. He’s going to have to continue to work hard and get back to playing football again.”
While Poles didn’t give exact details on the injury or Gordon’s prognosis, he said that Gordon has been unable to “push through” discomfort during his rehab process.
“Anytime you have an injury and you’re coming back from something there’s discomfort that you have to push through,” he said. “That’s what it comes down to. We haven’t been able to get over that hump, and we’re not progressing as fast as we would like.”
Gordon had one sack and one fumble recovery in three games for the Bears last season, with seven combined tackles. In the playoffs he had two passes defended and a sack, with 10 combine tackles in those games.
Gordon’s absence comes at a rough time for the Bears as they deal with injuries throughout their secondary, with Coby Bryant likely missing the bulk of the regular season, Jaylon Johnson dealing with an arm injury and Tyrique Stevenson dealing with a back ailment.
The Bears have until September 13 to get their secondary together, with their first game set as a road matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
