Rana suffered a Grade Two side strain during Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe in July. He played two ODIs and two T20Is on the tour before the injury ruled him out of the two-match Test series against Australia.
The 23-year-old travelled to Australia for a specialist consultation, where doctors assessed his side strain and an old shinbone injury. He then returned to Bangladesh and continued his rehabilitation under the supervision of the team's physios.
Rana returned to bowling on Monday at the BCB National Cricket Academy ground in Mirpur, next to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. He used a shortened run-up during his first bowling session after six weeks away from the nets.
Bangladesh Prepare Strong Squad for Asian Games
Bangladesh are set to field an almost full-strength squad at the Asian Games in Japan after initially considering a second-string team. The selectors changed their plans after India and other teams named strong squads for the tournament.
The final 15-member squad is yet to be confirmed, but several senior players are expected to feature. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Taskin Ahmed, Litton Das, Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are among the players likely to be included. Veteran pacer Mustafizur Rahman is also expected to make the squad.
Rana, however, will miss the tournament as Bangladesh prioritizes his recovery. The team will look to improve on their bronze-medal finish at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
