Flights from several U.S. airports heading to Chicago were grounded Monday afternoon as a ground stop was put in place due to thunderstorms.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the ground stop was issued at O’Hare Airport and remains in effect until 3:15 p.m. CT, though it may be extended.

    The stop was impacting flights departing to Chicago.

    The chance for scattered showers continues through the evening hours, but the storms are not expected to be severe.

    “Lightning and heavy rain,” according to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman.
