SEC universities are reportedly exploring drastic options as LSU appears ready to roster multiple football players with NFL experience in 2026.
While the SEC league office has confirmed it will follow court orders regarding eligibility cases, 15 member institutions are reportedly considering punitive measures against LSU over its plans to roster players with NFL ties.
According to Yahoo!’s Ross Dellenger, league members are weighing options that include expulsion or boycotting competition against LSU.
This news comes as LSU has reportedly earned commitments from multiple players who signed NFL contracts this offseason, but are potentially eligible to play college football in 2026 pending various state and federal lawsuits.

The players, including former Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright and former Ole Miss defensive back Zxavian Harris, are part of the class of 2022 and are potentially in line to benefit from the NCAA’s new 5-in-5 eligibility policy.
However, both Wright and Harris signed NFL contracts this offseason and therefore their eligibility to return to the college game is being contested.
Dellenger’s report characterizes the talks among the other 15 SEC universities as “early” but “serious.”
SEC programs previously voted 15-0 to ban ex-pros from returning to college athletics. This included players who had signed contracts with the NBA, WNBA, G-League or NFL. LSU reportedly abstained from voting.
