ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say they arrested a 41-year-old man for the third time this year after being accused of stealing copper piping from an apartment building.
Police say on Aug. 12, they responded to Taylor Square Apartments on North Clinton Avenue for a report of a burglary. According to investigators, they learned on Aug. 9, Eric Holmes went into the building and cut out multiple pieces of copper piping.
As a result, police say the air conditioning system was rendered inoperable with an estimated $17,000 of damage. Police also say due to the damage, multiple elderly people living in the building were moved until repairs could be made.
After reviewing security footage, police identified Holmes as the suspect, and arrested him on Saturday. According to police, Holmes ran from the officers, but was safely taken into custody following a foot chase.
Holmes is charged with burglary, petit larceny, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. Additionally, police say he had outstanding bench warrants for failing to appear in court relative to an arrest on June 16 arrestfor robbery and petit larceny, and his May 29 arrest for petit larceny.
He’s being held at the Monroe County Jail without bail.
