Ford recalls vehicles in South Africa over safety concerns

The affected Ranger Double-Cab models have an airbag-related defect that could cause interior trim to detach and injure occupants

South Africa’s National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting 2,275 Ford Ranger Double-Cab vehicles produced for the 2026-2027 model year.

According to the consumer watchdog, Ford reported that the side curtain airbags in the affected vehicles may interact with the B-pillar trim when deployed. This could cause the trim to detach and become a projectile, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

”The affected vehicles were sold nationwide between May 22, 2026 and June 23, 2026 through Ford franchised dealers and were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.”

The commission added that affected vehicle owners should take their vehicles to their nearest authorised Ford dealership for inspection and repair. The remedial work will be carried out at no cost to consumers.

“This recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. Owners or users of these vehicles should contact the supplier without delay,” Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu said.

”The NCC will be monitoring this and other recalls to ensure all affected vehicles in South Africa are attended to.”

Last month, the commission confirmed the recall of 314 Nissan Qashqai vehicles over a potential fuel pipe defect that could lead to a fuel leak.

It also announced the recall of 507 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vehicles and 124 Lexus LX600 models because manufacturing debris in the engine could cause the main bearings to fail, potentially resulting in an engine stall while driving.

The commission urged owners of affected vehicles to visit authorised dealerships for inspections and repairs, which would be carried out at no cost.
