The last time Alabama football played an afternoon game at Death Valley

The Alabama Crimson Tide is set to take on the LSU Tigers this Saturday at Tiger Stadium for an afternoon kickoff. The last time Alabama played at LSU for a 2:30 kickoff was in 2010.

“Thought the guys had a great mindset [during the bye week], we got the work in, and ready for a great week this week. Got a very good LSU team,” said head coach Kalen DeBoer. “Going on the road, that’ll be a challenge as well, one that I know our guys are excited about, looking forward to.”

From 2012-24, the Alabama vs. LSU game at Tiger Stadium has consistently been a night game.

On Nov. 6, 2010, the then-No. 5 Crimson Tide traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on the then No. 12 LSU. LSU ended up upsetting Alabama and taking the win 24-21.

At the end of the first quarter, LSU led 3-0 after a field goal in the 10th minute.

In the first drive of the second quarter, Alabama running back Trent Richardson scored a touchdown, leaving the Crimson Tide up 7-3 at halftime.

LSU wide receiver Rueben Randle scored a 75-yard touchdown in the seventh minute of the third quarter. The Crimson Tide then scored on the next drive, with running back Mark Ingram II rushing for 5 yards.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide had the lead 14-10. However, in the first drive of the final quarter, LSU made a field goal. Alabama then fumbled the next drive and LSU capitalized on that, ending its early possession with a touchdown.

The Crimson Tide then fumbled its next drive, and LSU was able to take an advantage of an early possession again to get a field goal to put the Tigers up 21-14.

Finally, in the 12th minute of the fourth quarter, wide receiver Julio Jones scored a touchdown to mark the final score, with LSU winning 24-21.

This year, Alabama is entering the game off of a bye week after a loss and a win. LSU is entering off of a bye week as well. Both teams have two SEC losses and will be hungry for a win to potentially see Mercedes-Benz Stadium for an SEC Championship game.

“We just gotta show up and play,” DeBoer said.

The Crimson Tide will need to ensure it is completing passes and holding strong on both defensive and offensive lines.
