It isn't the only Poké project on the way for 2027, with a series, titled The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, also on the way, to be released on Disney+.
The synopsis for that series says: "Our heroes embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown. Peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them."
It is being made in a collaboration between The Pokémon Company International and Aardman Animations (Wallace and Gromit), and Escavalier will reportedly be the main antagonist of the series, who is described as a "knight that could challenge and compete against" Sirfetch’d.
There have thus far been 23 animated filmed in the Pokémon franchise, as well as one live-action film, Detective Pikachu. That film was released in 2019, and starred Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy.
Pokémon: Wild Card will be released in 2027.
