ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC’s Lynette Adams sits down with the co-founder and CEO of Walking For Rochester, an anti-litter nonprofit. Then she talks with two Highland Hospital doctors about Black maternal mortality. The third interview is with the executive director of the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing. Finally, Lynette speaks with the owner of a new Rochester juice bar.
Lynette speaks with Matt Apple, co-founder and CEO of Walking For Rochester, a nonprofit dedicated to making Rochester litter-free by organizing cleanup campaigns across the city. The organization has evolved since it launched six years ago with its first citywide effort and a brand-new app. Apple talks about the organization’s success, including that about 20,000 pounds of litter have been picked up since 2020.
Black maternal mortality continues to be breaking news in the Black community. It’s still happening at alarming rates. Lynette speaks with Highland Hospital OBGYN’s Dr. Devin Williams and Dr. Ayesha Turner, who talk about the problem and offer advice for Black expectant moms. The doctors also talk about the statistics of black maternal mortality and how all women of color can be impacted.
Lynette also catches up with Dr. Holly Brown, the executive director of the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing, to see how the program is going. She tells Lynette why it’s so important for health care workers to have this specialized training. Within the program, Brown explains the laboratory, clinical, and simulated experiences to help educate nurses on what it’s like for someone with developmental disabilities.
The show ends with a visit to a new juice bar in downtown Rochester. It’s called Beautifully Nourished and is located right across from the Federal Building. Owner Jacorii Smith tells Lynette about her mission to help others like her achieve better health through juicing. She makes cold-pressed juices and smoothies, and her menu is growing. She’s only been in business for three months, and already she’s weathered her first major setback.
