After entering halftime scoreless, Alabama got into its groove during the first few minutes of the second half. Crimson Tide forward Larkin Thomason was fouled inside the penalty box only three minutes into the second half. The foul went under review, and a penalty kick was awarded.
Thomason found the back of the net, putting Alabama ahead 1-0. As the game continued, tension began to build between the two teams.
Alabama continued to pressure Troy throughout the second half. Defender Kennedy Garcia extended the Crimson Tide’s lead in the 79th minute before forward Soph Martelli added another goal two minutes later to secure the 3-0 win.
The lead allowed Alabama head coach Wes Hart to give several players opportunities while resting others.
“I thought it was great that we were able to rest a few players that had played a lot of minutes and got some valuable minutes for some players who hadn’t played much,” Hart said. “I thought they responded.”
Alabama controlled the game speed by putting ten shots on goal. The Crimson Tide’s defense limited the Trojans to just one shot on goal.
The win kept Alabama undefeated, but Hart said the team’s focus now must be on maintaining the mentality that has helped it begin the season successfully.
“I think we’ve got to continue to stay grounded,” Hart said. “Obviously, we’ve gotten a little bit of attention lately, and much-deserved attention. I mean, the schedule that we had, going 4-0 against the teams we played.”
Alabama will look to carry that mindset into its next match Sunday against South Alabama. The game will be played in Tuscaloosa, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. CT.
