Hulu has renewed its psychological crime thriller Furious for a second season, confirming the show's future just days before this week's hotly anticipated finale.
Deadline reported the unusually early vote of confidence from the Disney-owned streamer, which typically waits for long-term viewing figures before committing to more episodes.
Created by Liz Meriwether (The Dropout), the series stars Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, who is on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer played by Lola Petticrew.
"Both walk their paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur," teases the official synopsis.
View Green Video on the source websiteRossum, best known for her long run as Fiona Gallagher in the US adaptation of Shameless, executive produces as well as stars opposite Petticrew, the Belfast-born actor known for Bloodlands and Say Nothing.
The Furious cast also includes Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Jake Lacy, Rob Delaney, Hope Davis, Rob Yang and Steve Way in guest and supporting roles.
Data analyst firm Nielsen, which tracks and estimates streaming viewership in the US, noted that Furious was the 10th most-watched show of the week it launched, with 372 million minutes streamed.
Hulu has said that the show's audience has only grown during the show's staggered weekly release schedule, likely benefiting from positive word of mouth (if the glowing reviews are any indication).
Furious currently holds a stellar 98 per cent critics' score on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, while rival site Metacritic also registers "universal acclaim" with an average score of 81/100.
The confirmation follows less welcome news for fans of original Hulu sitcom Not Suitable for Work, created by Never Have I Ever's Mindy Kaling, which was axed after its first season.
