The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still searching for a new title sponsor for the matches of the India National Cricket Team even more than two weeks after the bidding deadline ended. It is being said that the negotiations are underway at this stage.
The three-year title sponsorship deal with IDFC First Bank ended in August 2026. After that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India invited fresh bids and set August 13 as the deadline.
However, the first round of bidding has reportedly received no offers because the BCCI increased the minimum price by 15.5%. The new base price was set at ₹4.85 crore per match. Amid this, India’s WTC 2027 Final qualification scenario after Sri Lanka series.
As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI is still without the title sponsor for India’s matches. The report suggested that the world’s richest cricket body is in direct talks with several big companies, including Google Gemini, SBI Life, IDFC First Bank, and Spinny.
The report reads: "The BCCI is believed to be directly negotiating with the potential parties, including with brands like Google Gemini, SBI Life, IDFC First Bank and even Spinny."
However, the process is still in the negotiation stage. Interestingly, the BCCI has blocked several business categories from bidding for the title sponsorship. Tire, paint, and sports apparel companies can’t be part of the current sponsorship process.
Tyre, Paint and Sports brands blocked from bidding
The BCCI’s tender document clearly states that companies involved directly or indirectly in the manufacturing, selling, or distributing of tires, tubes, and flaps cannot submit bids. The same rule applies to businesses involved in athleisure wear, performance wear, sports merchandise, and sports equipment.
Companies involved in paints, waterproofing, and wallpapers are also not allowed to submit bids. The BCCI has taken this decision to protect their current sponsors, including Apollo Tyres, Asian Paints, and Adidas. Additionally, the ban remains on tobacco, liquor, fantasy gaming, and gambling companies.
These restrictions mean that the big companies like MRF, CEAT, Berger Paints, JSW Paints, Nike, Puma, and Decathlon cannot bid for the rights of India’s matches. Amid this, "No Excuse": Dodda Ganesh slams India for squandering winning position in Colombo.
