We’re On Darnell Wright Injury Watch

The injury bug continues to gnaw at the Chicago Bears.

We are on Darnell Wright injury watch after the Bears’ starting right tackle suffered an apparent elbow injury during Tuesday’s practice at Halas Hall.

More from reporters on the Bears beat who are monitoring the situation:

Darnell Wright Injury Watch: All-Pro Right Tackle Suffers Apparent Elbow Injury

I started writing about how valuable Darnell Wright is to this offense, but then I realized I’d be here for another hour or so laying out every bit of evidence explaining his importance.

In brief, a second-team All-Pro coming off his best season as a pro and coming into his own isn’t someone you easily replace in the lineup. Wright is not only the go-to guy to run behind in the ground game, but his pass blocking is steadily improving. Some believe Wright is the NFL’s best right tackle right now. And if he isn’t already there, the 2026 season will be one in which he could prove himself to any doubters. Losing Wright for a considerable amount of time would be damaging.

If Wright has to miss any time, these are the players who are lined up behind him on the depth chart:

Theo Benedet Jedrick Wills Jr. Kiran Amegadjie

Benedet has starting experience and grades out well as a run blocker, but his pass blocking leaves something to be desired. Wills was a first-round pick in 2020 by the Cleveland Browns. While he has the desired measurables and a unique prospect pedigree, the University of Alabama product has yet to fully put it together as a pro. Amegadjie was a third-round pick by the Bears in 2023 and is a left tackle by trade, but is trying to prove himself as a possible swing tackle candidate. Hopefully, Wright’s injury isn’t a serious one. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when possible.
