Another day, another reason to get excited for the upcoming Bulls season!
Yesterday, a former Bulls great weighed in on the new Bulls star, the head coach, and even had some advice for fans. The Windy City Bulls also officially hired their next head coach. And, of course, there’s more.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
Quincy Pondexter Credit: Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports The Caleb Wilson love across Chicago has been apparent even before Bryson Graham officially made the pick to bring him in. Fans, current players and even Hall of Famers have loved what he’s shown so far and believe in what he could do for Chicago before he’s even played his first regular-season game. Another Hall of Famer who’s head over heels for Chicago’s fourth overall pick is also a former Bulls power forward, none other than Horace Grant. In a conversation with Kyle Odegard of Action Network, Horace had nothing but nice things to say about Caleb.Horace Grant says Caleb Wilson is one of the Bulls best draft pick since Derrick Rose“What a beast. What a freakin’ beast. He has all the intangibles, the skillset. But what I love about him is that he has the mindset of a killer. A dog. He goes out and gets it. “It’s one of… pic.twitter.com/Os6lPKfRHH
— Fullcourtpass (@Fullcourtpass) August 24, 2026 And this is all based on what he’s seen from just his freshman season at UNC and four games of Summer League. And soon, he could be in that elusive group of Jordan, Pippen and Grant as one of the best Bulls draft picks of all time. Speaking of Caleb’s amazing Summer League, that’s where Grant was first sold on him being part of the core with Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis. Pending future additions, of course.“When you showcase yourself like that, especially in the Summer League, it gives us Bulls fans hope that he will be one of those pieces along with Josh and Buzelis. There are more pieces that we need, but man, what I saw in Vegas, he’s the real deal.”
But Caleb wasn’t the only addition the Bulls made this offseason. They also brought in a whole new front office and a new head coach in Tiago Splitter. Splitter was the coach of the Portland Trail Blazers last season and actually coached Horace Grant’s nephew, Jerami Grant.“I haven’t talked to [Tiago] as of yet. I’m pretty sure he’s still trying to get pieces around him, as far as assistant coaches, player development guys. But the craziest thing is he coached my nephew down in Portland. My nephew put a check box on him. A great individual, knows how to coach, knows how to relate to his players. The Bulls are going to have a very young core group of guys, so I think he’s the perfect guy for the job.”
All of this has gotten Horace really excited for next season, but he knows it won’t be pretty right out of the gate. One thing he keeps reiterating is that fans will need patience to make this work, giving the example of when he came into the NBA and that Bulls team needed patience as well. Other things needed? Good health and more leadership in the locker room. Not my words. That’s all Horace. About a week ago, I mentioned a potential unverified report that the Windy City Bulls, Chicago’s G-League team, had hired their new head coach. Yesterday, that report was verified by K.C. Johnson, making it official. Windy City have hired former NBA player Quincy Pondexter as their new head coach. Pondexter spent eight seasons in the NBA, including one with Chicago during the 2017-18 season, before kicking off his coaching career. He was an assistant coach at Washington, where he returned for the 2025-26 season.Bulls have hired Quincy Pondexter as head coach of Windy City G League team. The former Bull (2017-18) served as assistant coach at both Washington and USC in NCAA. He also played high school basketball with Robin and Brook Lopez and is the nephew of former Bull Cliff Pondexter
— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) August 24, 2026 Both new coaches, Quincy and Tiago, were former players who spent time in San Antonio. Just not at the same time. Hopefully, his addition helps make the G-League team the pipeline of talent Bryson is hoping it becomes. It should also help with the development of Noa Essengue and Dailyn Swain, who I imagine will spend a lot of time there next season.BULLS ON BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
