One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash along Elkhorn Boulevard in Sacramento County on Friday, officials said.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. at Elkhorn Boulevard and 20th Street in the Rio Linda area, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.
Metro Fire said the person killed was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second person was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. A CHP official at the scene told CBS News Sacramento that the driver of a silver BMW lost control on westbound Elkhorn Boulevard and crossed into the eastbound lanes, into the path of a Toyota.
The driver of the Toyota is the person who died at the scene. He has since been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as 58-year-old Apolonio Gomez of North Highlands.
A third vehicle involved sustained minor damage, the CHP said.
