IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Ukrainian community leaders gathered in Irondequoit Sunday to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
Several local non-profit leaders attended, including representatives from RocMaidan and the Ukrainian Cultural Center.
“Formally in 1991 the parliament in Ukraine declared independence. We celebrate today but as we all know the war drags on but that doesn’t mean we stop doing what we’re doing and believing that peace will eventually come to Ukraine,” said Alexander Oryshkevych, a volunteer for RocMaidan.
The gathering also honored the contributions of the local Ukrainian community.
