The University of Alabama announced on Aug. 11 that multiple construction and renovation projects are underway across campus, including improvements to student facilities, safety and accessibility.
Bollards, short metal posts that prevent vehicles from entering pedestrian areas, were installed along University Blvd. from Colonial Drive to Sixth Ave. and along the east side of the Quad from Capstone Drive to University Blvd. to improve pedestrian safety.
Additionally, the nearly 200-year-old President’s Mansion has officially reopened following months of revitalization efforts, adding accessibility features and replacing outdated infrastructure while maintaining the mansion’s historic charm.
Extensive interior renovations and upgrades to Farrah Hall, the home of the new School of Leadership and Policy, will include improvements to heating and cooling, electrical systems, accessibility, safety features and technology.
Additionally, a new elevator will serve all four floors of Farrah Hall to improve ADA access. Previously, two elevators located in different areas were required to access all floors. Renovations began in May and are scheduled for completion in Fall 2027.
On Bryce Campus, the Student Well-Being Hub continues construction and is scheduled for completion in December. The Hub will span more than 82,000 square feet and serve as the home for several offices of the Division of Student Life, expanding the University of Alabama’s support for student health and wellness.
Construction also continues for the Smith Family Center for the Performing Arts, which is scheduled for completion in April 2027. The facility will bring performances and academic programs from the Department of Theatre and Dance together in a larger and more modern space.
